Lamp Outreach

The Lake Ontario forum was previously stewarded by the Center for Environmental Initiatives (CEI) in Rochester NY ( from May 2014 to December 2014.

The Center for Environmental Initiatives (CEI) was awarded a $99,125 GLRI (Great Lakes Restoration Initiative) grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency to provide New York State citizens with information about federal, state and local efforts to improve water quality in the Lake Ontario Basin. CEI worked closely with the USEPA and NYSDEC on this project.

The work is part of the Lake Ontario LAMP (Lakewide Action and Management Plan), a binational plan under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement directed at restoring and protecting Lake Ontario by reducing the amount of pollutants entering the lake and addressing chemical, biological and physical stressors impacting the lake. The LAMP guides activities of the participating US and Canadian federal, state and provincial government agencies and other partners.

CEI provided stakeholder outreach and citizen engagement, along with the development of a new website to house Lake Ontario water quality information, in order to increase the number and diversity of the stakeholders and citizens who know about the LAMP. The combination of personal outreach and a new website is designed to help citizens of New York to appreciate the inherent value of this precious resource and encourage them to become stewards of the water while taking individual responsibility to improve it.

Please see the Virtual Tour for a synopsis of our work on this project.
